Monday, September 29th, 2008Once a player has decided not to surrender but to go on with the game, the most basic decisions that he must make is whether he choose to hit or stand. Hitting means that the payer intends to be dealt a third card and if he opts to stand it means that he is satisfied with the total value of his hand strength after being dealt the initial two cards and does not want to draw the optional third card and wants to lock his hand value. There is a definite process by which a player indicates to the dealer how he wants to act, that is whether he wishes to hit to stand. The type of the blackjack game determines how a player can communicate his intention to the dealer.
In case the ‘shoe’ game of blackjack is being played where the player is dealt out cards with their faces turned upwards, if he wishes to hit, he is required to make a tapping movement on the game table with his fingers behind the two cards given to him which means he wants to be dealt the third card. This is significant because this type of the game does not recognize the player’s verbal announcement of his decision to hit or stand and the hand signals is the only way to make the decision known. The purpose behind insisting on use of hand signals in making the decision known is to remove any kind of chance of confusion or uncertainty in the play, and also to allow the supervising cameras and/or CCTVs in the casino house to record the action of the player that can be referred to later in case there is any dispute. Therefore it is evident that the players must know the meaning and significance of hand movements and must not indulge in any activity that can be considered as a decision in his gameplay.
